WORD STUDY CONTRACT

                                                Activity Sheet

I must do at least three activities before Friday of each week.

I can choose to do any of the following activities to earn points, but I should try to vary activities on a weekly basis.

1. Break-up your words into syllables, and tell how many syllables there are in each word. (15 points)

2.   Make a comic strip with all your words. (25 points)

3.  Write your words in a different language. (20 points)

4.  Create a poem or song with your words. (20 points)

5.  Give the parts of speech for all your words. (15 points)

6.  Make-up flashcards writing out the words on one side.

On the other side, write out the definitions, use them

in a complete sentence, and draw a picture. (20 points)

7.  Write your spelling words neatly in cursive. (10 points)

8.  Silly sentences – Write a different silly sentence for each word. Be creative and

use $100 words as well as capitals and periods. You may not start your sentences

with the word I, and they must be at least 6 words long.  (20 points)

9.  Word Scramble – Scramble the letters from each word and write them down. Then write the correct spelling for each word beside the scrambled word.

      (10 points)

10.   Synonym Search – Look up each word in the dictionary and find a synonym for all of your words. (15 points)

11.   Write a one page story using all the words from the spelling list. Underline the words that you used in the story. Remember to use compound as well as simple sentences.

       (25 points)

12.   Pair yourself with a partner and give each other a practice test. Remember to

grade this test and look carefully at the words you missed. (10 points)

13.   Create a spelling game using all of your spelling words. You may use the Internet to create your game.  (15 points)

14.  Make your own sentence by using the letters in your spelling word(s) to create a

sentence. (i.e. GLOVE – Great learners overcome vocabulary exercises).

Remember to start with a capital letter and place a punctuation mark at the end.

       (20 points)

15.  Create a test using all of your spelling words. The format should be similar to the

example shown below, and a buddy must take the test.  Please provide an answer

key.  (i.e. wierd, weird, weerd, weirde) (20 points)

    75 points = A           65 points = B           55 points = C
